One of the most mainstream Rakhi stories is that of Lord Krishna and Draupadi. During a duel with the cruel Sishupala, Krishna cuts his little finger. Draupadi immediately detached a piece of her saree and bandaged his finger. Around then, Krishna had ensured Draupadi of eternal protection. Lord Krishna fulfilled his commitment during the troublesome minutes of Draupadi and provided her an unending saree, one which could never be unwrapped and hence shielded her dignity.

The injury of Lord Krishna's finger has another famous source in folklore. During the Sankranti celebration, Krishna was sharing the freshly reaped sugarcane offered to him by Gopis as per the traditions of the celebration. To squeeze the juice out of the sugarcanes, Krishna needed to cut them. While performing so, he accidentally cut his short finger. Seeing blood on his finger, Satyabhama - Krishna's wife - with her unique self-esteem, directed the workers to go inside the palace to get some fabric to bandage the finger.

Draupadi, who was also present, however, out of her affection and care for her brother Krishna, instantly tore off a piece of fabric from her beautiful saree and wrapped it in Krishna's finger. For Krishna, this glorified Raksha-Bandhan and he instantly promised his sister Draupadi to protect her whenever she needed it. Draupadi was a great believer of Lord Krishna, who is almighty, sharp, and powerful.

2)Yama and Yamuna:

A mainstream legend says When Yama, the God of Death Could not meet his sister Yamuna for many years then the river goddess looked for help from the river Ganga. Upon an update about his sister by Ganga, Yama chose to visit the Yamuna. Being overjoyed by her brother’s appearance, Yamuna arranged a plentiful dining experience for Yama and tied a Rakhi to him. Charmed, he asked his sister what she needed as a blessing. All she wanted was her brother to visit her soon. And afterward, Yama granted her everlasting status. He was touched by the gesture and announced that any brother who has tied a Rakhi and offered to protect his sister would become immortal. Thus the Yamuna, the longest and the second largest tributary river of Ganga, streams enthusiastically today.

3)Lord Vishnu and Parvati:-

‘Sati’ (Lord Shiva’s first spouse), was reborn as Parvati to King Himalaya and Mena. Parvati grew up with the expectation of a wedding with Lord Shiva, yet Shiva wouldn't acknowledge her as his associate because of the loss of his love ‘Sati’. Parvati took to extreme austerities to filter her senses, and activate her chakras with the goal that she could get qualified to wed the Lord. To assist with contacting her objective, Lord Vishnu requested her to tie a Rakhi on his wrist so that as her brother he could remove all difficulties coming in her direction. Legend has it, that for Shiva and Parvati’s heavenly marriage, Lord Vishnu played out all the services that should be finished by the bride’s brother and shine up on this favorable ceremonial day.

How is Raksha Bandhan

Celebrated?

Generally, the beautiful Rakhi and delicious desserts are arranged well before the Shravan Purnima. As per the Indian tradition, the family members prepare for the customs promptly toward the beginning of the day. They take a bath to purify the brain and body before beginning any arrangements. Sisters set up the puja thali which comprises Roli, tilak, Rakhi threads, rice grains, diyas, and sweets. After offering the rituals to the gods of the family, the sister performs Aarti of their brothers and ties Rakhi on their wrist.

At that point, they put Kumkum on the forehead of their brother, offer sweets, and pray to God for a long life for her brother. In return, brothers pamper and bless the sisters and promise to protect her from all the evils of this world. He likewise presents his love and affection as a Rakhi blessing.
