As indicated by ancient sacred writings like Skanda Purana, the Bel tree emerged out of the sweat droplets of Goddess Parvati, which dropped on the Mandrachal Mountain. It is said that she lives in these trees in the entirety of her structures; in the leaves, flowers, fruit, and roots. Because of this reason, Lord Shiva is extremely attached to the Bilwa tree and its leaves.
According to Puranas and Vedas, an offering of bel Patra has a much deeper significance in Hindu worship customs. The leaves of the Bilwa tree are trifoliate which in Hindu conviction implies the sacred Trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The sacred texts additionally express, that the leaf, symbolizes the three eyes of Lord Shiva. As such Lord Shiva the gentile Lord, was extremely fond of Bilwa leaves. It is said that the person who offers bel Patra to the Shivling with dedication, Lord Shiva bestows him/her with whatever he/she wants.
